Great Indian Scientists who changed the World by their Innovation
India’s rich history includes the names of many great scientists who worked and also appreciated all over the globe. Several Indian scientists have formed history by forming the world as well as setting standards of modernism and innovations. In 1930 Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman (C.V.Raman) won the Nobel Prize for Physics and his ground-breaking work on scattering of light. He was born in Tiruchirapalli on 7th November 1888 and was the foremost Asian as well as non-white to be given any Nobel Prize in the field of science. He also worked on the acoustics of musical instruments and was the first to explore the vocal nature of the sound of Indian drums like mridangam and tabla. As per Raman‘s finding at the time light traverses a transparent material a little of the reflected light varies in wavelength. This invention is also known as Raman scattering. Sadly he was collapsed in his laboratory in 1970 and died on 21st November 1970 owing to natural causes.
- Venkatraman Radhakrishnan
Born on 18th May 1929 in Tondaripet, Chennai Venkatraman was an internationally renowned space scientist. He was also the member of Royal Swedish Academy of sciences. Venkatraman was one of those Indian scientists who were much-admired in India as well as internationally. He was well known for his design as well as the production of ultralight aircraft and sailboats. His discovery and observations have assisted the community in unscrambling numerous mysteries around interstellar clouds, pulsars, galaxy structures as well as many other celestial bodies. At the age of 81 h died in Bangalore.
This great scientist was born on 19th October 1910 in Lahore and was awarded Nobel Prize in 1983 for Physics regarding his mathematical theory of black holes. He was the nephew of C.V.Raman and Chandrasekhar limit was named after him. His most recognized work was concerning the radiation of energy from stars, mainly white dwarf stars, which are the dying fragments of stars. At the age of 82, on 21st August 1995, he died in Chicago.
- Meghnand Saha
Meghnanad Saha was born in Dhaka Bangladesh on 6th October 1893 and was known as one of the great Indian scientists. His most known work was regarding the thermal ionization of elements and which led him to prepare Saha Equation. This Shah equation was one of the primary tools for the understanding of spectra of stars in astrophysics. One can stumble on the temperature of various stars by studying there spectra. And after that was using, Saha equation one can find out the ionisation state of the numerous elements making up the star. This invention also includes an instrument to measure the pressure as well as the weight of solar rays. He was also the one who prepared the original plan for Damodar River valley and was also known to be the chief architect of river planning in India.
- Har Gobind Khorana
Har Gobind Khorana was born on 6th January 1922 in West Bengal and was an Indian American biochemist who was known to be the greatest Indian scientist. He shared 1968 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine along with Marshall W. Nirenberg and Robert W. Holley. Their research assisted in demonstrating how the order of nucleotides in nucleic acids carry out the genetic code of cell and manage the cell’s synthesis of proteins. Khorana became the first of synthesizing an artificial gene in a living cell in 1970, and his work became the foundation for later research in biotechnology along with gene therapy.
- P.J. Abdul Kalam
Born on 15th October 1931 Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam (A.P.J.Abdul Kalam) was one of the great Indian scientists in India. He has worked as an aerospace engineer with Defence Research and Development Organization, i.e. DRDO as well as ISRO, i.e. Indian Space Research Organisation. He initiated his career by crafting a small helicopter for Indian army and was also the part of INCOSPAR committee working underneath renowned space scientist Vikram Sarabhai. After that in 1969, he was transferred to ISRO where h was at the post of project director of India’s primary indigenous Satellite Launch Vehicle, i.e. SLV-III which was fruitfully positioned the Rohini satellite in near earth’s orbit in 1980.
Kalam also served as 11th president of India and also advocated plans to build up India as the developed nation by 2020. He received many awards counting Bharat Ratna which is an aid to be India’s highest civilian honor. On 27th July 2015 Kalam collapsed at the time of giving the lecture at IIM Shillong and was declared dead owing to the cardiac arrest. His sudden death had stunned many but he died while doing for what he was respected the most, and that was teaching.
