What happens when car engineers experiment with their new designs? A revolutionary concept takes birth. Car manufacturing companies often experiment with the future of mobility and figure out which features and technological advancements to include in production cars of the future. In the 87th Geneva International Motor Show which took place from 9th to19th March, showcased some near unimaginable designs and concepts in the automotive industry. Read on for wildest concepts cars already unveiled in 2017.

  1. Airbus Pop.Up

“Seamless urban mobility”, what aerospace (airbus) and automotive engineers (Italdesign- an Italian automotive design company) have thought while designing Pop.Up. This electric emission free Modular air and ground passenger concept car can be airlifted by a drone. Dubbed as the Pop.Up System, the car has 100 kms of range. It can easily unhook from its chassis so that a drone can pick it up with ease. The autonomous drone is powered by 8 rotors.

  1. Volkswagen Sedric

The answer to self-driving concept car with artificial intelligence is Volkswagen Sedric. The concept is more like a robot assistant. The car’s AI will allow it to find its own parking spot, drop kids off to school, and pick up packages for the owner. The car’s high-tech windshield has OLED eyes, swinging black doors without any driver controls. It has an external button for the owners to access the car.

  1. Toyota i-TRIL

Toyota this year has revealed a rather unusual design concept code-named “i-Tril”. This concept is less of a car and more of an alternative to motorcycles and public transit. The i-Tril was conceptualized for the urban speedster. The in-house developed feature of Toyota’s Active Lean technology automatically adjusts the wheels for best possible maneuverability. Another special feature, is its range of 200 kms.

  1. Chrysler Portal

Aesthetically this concept car is not that eye-catching though it houses some cool high-tech features. The car comes with the most anticipated LIDAR technology (Light Detection and Ranging to detect variable distances) and sensors for handling Level 3 autonomous driving which translates to urban maneuverability with human oversight. The zero emission electric power gives the car a range of a whopping 402 Kms. It also supports quick charge functionality where in just under 20 minutes with a DC Fast Charger it can attain 50% power.

  1. Rinspeed Oasis

This concept car comes with an actual garden including Bonsai trees and radishes. This crazy car houses a massive touchscreen display complete with gesture and voice control. The primary function of this large display is to alert for upcoming obstacles. The makers have developed this vehicle for commercial purpose in a ride-sharing setting through a mobile app.

  1. Honda MEU-V

Debuted at the 87th Geneva International Motor Show since the teaser images that popped up back in December. The features are still tight-lipped by Honda with some common features revealed in public like – electric self-driving. The AI that can “read human emotions” is also revealed to improve the best driving experience.

  1. Volkswagen I.D. Buzz

This is the second concept car from the Volkswagen stable. It revealed a high-tech version of its already popular microbus. The I.D. Buzz gets a zero emission electric motor which can give an output of a staggering 435 Kms of range on a single charge. To make the vehicle fully autonomous, it is fitted with lidar, radar, cameras, and ultrasonic sensors. The microbus also has an innovative idea such as a removable tablet from the vehicle to be able to use outside and a smartphone entry inside the car.

  1. Toyota Concept-i

Toyota too unveiled yet another concept car in the form of Concept-i. Much like the Honda’s NeuV, the vehicle’s AI assistant named Yui is designed to be interactive for full awareness while driving. It comes only with a heads-up display and no touch-screen is available. Other features include scissor doors and headlights that can wink at you.

This automotive giant also revealed its own concept in the form of car interiors of the future. The main vision behind this concept is to have spacious and homely interiors including enough room for a bookshelf. The large screen display is fitted for the purpose of sitting back and relaxing while the vehicle drives for you.
